The Boruto anime adaptation will be starting its new broadcast hiatus following the conclusion of Part 1 with episode 293 last week.
If you are an avid fan of the Boruto anime, seeing terms such as ‘hiatus’, ‘delayed’, and even ‘canceled’ trending online can induce some serious stress.
The good news is that the anime adaptation has certainly not been canceled or axed outright; the bad news is that the broadcast will soon be entering a period of hiatus over the coming months.
Whilst this may not have necessarily been a surprise to the global community, here is everything that you need to know about the upcoming Boruto hiatus following the Part 1 finale last week.
Boruto anime hiatus is set to start from April 2
On March 9, the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations franchise finally confirmed that episode 293 would mark the Part 1 finale for the popular anime adaptation.
This means that there will Boruto episode 294 will not be released on April 2 as many fans may have expected, with the series now entering a broadcast hiatus,
“The anime BORUTO: Naruto Next Generations began in April of 2017. Six years have passed since then, but episode 293, set to air on March 26th (JST), will mark the last episode of the first part of the series.”
The good news is that Boruto anime Part 2 has already been confirmed to be in production alongside four new episodes of the original Naruto series which will premiere in September 2023.
Whilst the global Boruto fanbase will be sad to see the anime leave its traditional weekly release cycle, news of the hiatus does not come as a surprise for the majority of fans following a number of leaks last week.
Rumors originated from a recent magazine leak in Japan, which claimed that the anime series would be starting an indefinite hiatus after the release of episode 293 on March 26 – a broadcast postponement for the anime had been expected for some time because the TV adaptation is quickly catching up to the original manga series.
The hiatus is rumored to be three months long, but inside sources reportedly wanted this to be extended to six months – it is unclear whether this means that Studio Pierrot staff will then be finetuning the Black Clover movie, which was already delayed last month.
“This month’s Animedia Magazine is reporting out a time range of air dates for 3/10 to 04/09. It has delisted Boruto episodes for April – Omitting 04/02 and 04/09 information. Normally, broadcast breaks are given date and placeholders marked = (Broadcast Suspended).” – Organic Dinosaur, via Twitter.
Organic Dinosaur would then clarify that many shows in Japan make a note of ‘Final Episodes’ for a cour, season, or series finale. Since the Boruto anime does not feature this note, it indicates that the series will be returning with weekly episodes after the new hiatus.
