new version Rurouni Kenshin released a new trailer featuring the opening song. Ayase and R open while Reol sings the closing. Satoshi Hino joins the cast as Hajime Saito. Liden Films is reviving the series, which will be released in two consecutive episodes starting July 6th.
Soma Saito and Rie Takahashi voice the main duo Kenshin Himura and Kaoru Kamiya. Rie Takahashi took the stage today. Terumi Niishi does the character designs, while Hideyuki Karuta is responsible for the drama’s composition. Yu Takami composes the music. The anime’s first trailer was released in September.
The series is based on a manga by Nobuhiro Watsuki that aired in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1994 to 1999. The direct continuation of the series, Rurouni Kenshin: The Hokkaido Arcstarted serialization in 2017. Watsuki’s wife, Kaworu Kurosaki, is also involved in the project. The sequel took a brief hiatus (February-June 2018) after Watsuki was accused of possessing obscene material focused on children.
Gallop and Studio DEEN revived the adaptation, which aired from 1996 to 1999. There are multiple manga side stories and OVAs as well as a movie. The franchise also has a live-action adaptation that includes 5 movies. The first was released in 2012 and the last in 2021.
Viz Media licensed the manga in English and explains the plot as follows:
One hundred and forty years ago in Kyoto, with the arrival of the American “Black Ships”, a warrior named Hitokiri rose up, who killed people with his bloody blade! Its killing blade helped close the turbulent Bakumatsu era and opened the door to the progressive era known as the Meiji. Then he disappeared and became a legend over the years.
